3 Stories From Steve Jobs

Apple has always been near and dear to my heart. Having learned how to do desktop publishing on a clunky MacIntosh computer back in the early 90s, I remain ever faithful to Apple technology.

Now Apple brings you closer to free education via iTunes U. Search for classes from major universities in a wide range of subjects from physics to philosophy. Their current top download is the immortal commencement address that Apple founder, Steve Jobs, gave at Stanfurd University (no that's not a typo...I went to arch rival Cal Berkeley) back in 1995. He tells 3 inspiring stories from his life including the upside of being publicly fired from Apple and his fight against cancer, finishing with the advice "Stay hungry. Stay foolish."

You don't need an iPod to listen to any of these fantastic resources. Just download iTunes to either your Mac or PC computer. It's free. Once on iTunes, click on iTunes U on the left sidebar. Then you're free to learn to your heart's content.

An E-Myth Moment: What Is the Entrepreneurial Perspective?

August is "Back-to-School" month for your small business here at The Business Blog and that means getting back to B-A-S-I-C-S.

To that end, the Results Mastery Club hosted a bonus seminar this morning, Cracking the E-Myth For Your Small Business. During this 45-minute call, we discussed the concept that Michael E. Gerber calls the "Entrepreneurial Perspective". If you have a copy of Gerber's book, The E-Myth Revisited, read all about it in Chapter 6. If not, here is a brief summary:

The "Entrepreneurial Perspective"...
  1. Starts with a picture of a well-defined future, and then comes back to the present with the intention of changing it to match the vision.
  2. Envisions the business in its entirety.
  3. Sees the present day world as modeled after the vision, instead of the other way around.
We did a couple of step-by-step exercises this morning to help you adopt this mindset. (And it's an essential shift in thinking if you are frustrated with the current state of your business or you just want to grow it effectively.)

Did you miss the seminar? If you would like to listen to the recording, you can join the Results Mastery Club and get full access to this recording as well as a library of currently 15 other business trainings. Or if you want to ensure you don't miss future free workshops, join my mailing list at the top of this web page and you will receive notices delivered directly to your in box.

An E-Myth Moment: What Stage of Business Are You In?

According to Michael E. Gerber in his bestselling book, The E-Myth Revisted, there are 3 Stages of Business:
  1. Infancy: Where you work alone and, essentially, you are the business.
  2. Adolescence: Where you start bringing in help (partners, employees, etc).
  3. Maturity: Where you have a balanced business model that keeps everyone on the same page and everything running smoothly.
Many business owners never move their business past the Infancy or Adolescence stages or they stay stuck in Infancy where they basically own a job and not a business.

What stage are you currently experiencing?

Want to learn more about how to move into Maturity? Attend Cracking the E-Myth for Your Small Business, a free seminar, Friday, August 3rd at 8am Pacific. Click here for full details.

Technical Difficulties

I found out tonight, just an hour before my Goal Setting Blowout Workshop was scheduled to begin, that there were some technical difficulties with the auto-responder that sends out the call-in information to folks who registered on this blog. See this post. This means that many people who registered never received the number to dial to access the training. Arrgh!!! My apologies if you were affected!

The workshop was great and because I don't know exactly who registered for the call, I will post the information here tomorrow on how you can access the recording and the bonus materials. Because of some wonderful questions during the workshop, I even decided to give away extra resources that I use exclusively with my clients. Again, look out for the link to those materials tomorrow.

Want to Increase Your Success Rate by 50%?

I posted earlier this week about the fact that 2007 is half gone. If that statement makes your heart jump into your throat a bit, if you wake up at night worrying that you haven't accomplished as much as you expected, keep reading. In fact, your lack of results might not be entirely your fault and I can reassure you that you're not alone. If you've never learned how to set extraordinary goals, objectives, and strategies then how can anyone blame you for lackluster results?

Because it's Independence Day here in the United States, I'm offering you, my readers, the chance to take advantage of an offer to advance your freedom with a no fee workshop sponsored by the Results Mastery Club. It's called the Goal Setting Blowout Workshop and it's next Monday, July 9th at 5:30pm Pacific time via tele-seminar.

That means no travel time since you can call from your office, home, or car and no expense except for possible long distance charges. And if you can't make it live, register anyway because I will send you a link so you can listen to the recording from your computer whenever it's convenient to you. I'm also giving away lots of bonuses both during and after the workshop.

Use the form below to sign up and you will instantly receive an email with the call-in instructions:
