Does Twitter Make Sense 2U?

Unless you have been living under a rock (never a good thing for an entrepreneur to do, by the way), you have at least heard about Twitter and maybe even understand what it's all about.

However, if you are like most business owners who don't already work in the world of internet marketing, you have probably wondered why everyone is making such a fuss over something with a ridiculous name.
Here is the straight scoop. . . .For small business owners, Twitter is about (in this order):

  1. Building relationships (establishing the know/like/trust factor at light speed)

  2. Sharing valuable information (and indirectly displaying your expertise)

  3. Doing market research (paying attention to what others are saying and asking questions)

  4. Inviting vs. selling (opening the door to having prospects continue a relationship with you outside of Twitter)

As you can see, these four components might not seem to relate directly to dollars for your business. But it's actually just like a turbo charged version of in person or traditional networking.

Make your messages so appealing, useful, and engaging that you are the one constantly popping up on the radar of your ideal client. Once he/she has an awareness of you, the next step is to get him to relate to you outside of Twitter.

How? Put your web address in your Twitter profile, tweet about a special event you are hosting, share links to useful articles on your site. Structure your site so visitors can opt in to your mailing list in exchange for an irresistible freebie.

Once you have a prospect on your list, you now have his/her permission to continue building that relationship via email marketing as well as promoting any products or services you offer which translates directly into making that cash register ring. (Check out my hand drawn chart to see this system illustrated if you are of a more visual learner.)

Still not on board with Twitter? You might have to see it in action. . .I share all my best tips, news, and announcements via Twitter. Feel free to use me as a case study by "following" me at: Twitter.com/KimNishida.

How Badly Do You Want to Stay In Business?

This is a message I sent out to my mailing list today that includes concepts that I hope will shift your perspective a little about what staying in business really means to you:

===========================

I know you're busy, so I'll get right to the point…

I've spoken to a LOT of business owners over the past 12 months who are worried about the economy and who have seen some serious downturns in their business. Many are seriously wondering whether they should throw in the towel, bite the bullet and get a J-O-B.

It really pains me to hear entrepreneurs speak this way, especially when there are others who say that the last 6 months have brought an increase in revenue to the point where 2008 was their best year ever.

(If you are one of those business owners, let me say, Congratulations! You can stop reading right now and get on with your day.)

I've personally had to reinvent my business over the years and get super creative about what I have to offer to in order to stay profitable. I've had some spectacular failures that lead me down the road to unanticipated success. And I am fortunate to say that I currently work with clients who created some amazing things in their business last year and who continue to see tremendous growth in their business.

In order to help more people this year, I created a new program called Fully Committed. It's my Platinum Level society and it's open to only a small handful of very SERIOUS entrepreneurs.

First, let me tell you why this program is NOT for you.

This program may not be for you if you are someone who doesn't want to make more money; if you are someone who doesn't want to spend less time stressing out about working IN your business without seeing the results; if you are someone who isn't passionate about your cause; if you are someone who does not want to reach more people; if you are someone who does not want to try new, possibly scary ways to market your business and get more clients.

Then this program is not for you.

Bottom line is that this program can help every single business owner. The catch is that I can't work with everyone. This program is for those prepared to invest significantly because when I work with you personally, that's when things get done.

If you're interested in applying for this program and learning all the details, here's what you need to do:

1. Answer a few questions via email.
2. If I short-list your application, I'll contact you to schedule a brief telephone interview with me in the next 10 days.

That's it.

Again, this program isn't for everyone and I only have a few spaces open but even if you are mildly curious, I encourage you to apply. Why? I guarantee you'll learn some things about yourself in the process and it won't cost you a dime.

I am looking for a handful of people who are ready to take quick, decisive action, not sit around and whine about the economy.

If that's you, please answer the following questions and send them to kim@readytoevolve.com:

1. Personal info: Name, email address, phone number, time zone
2. How long have you been in business?
3. What are your business goals? (short and long term)
4. How badly do you want to achieve those goals?
5. Why do you want it so badly?
6. What will reaching those goals do for you?
7. What do you perceive are the current challenges that keep you from being as successful as you want? (list them all)
8. What was your gross revenue in the last 12 months?
9. Briefly describe your business.
10. Briefly describe your ideal client.
11. Why do you want to join this program?
12. In order to reach your goals quickly you might need to invest in items such as computer software, website development, personal assistance, etc. If adding these things made perfect sense to your business, how much could you realistically invest in the next 12 months?

I'm accepting applications over the next 3 days and setting up interviews into next week.

If you have any questions, shoot me an email.

I am passionate about keeping smart, savvy entrepreneurs like yourself in business and I don't want to see you giving up that dream to get a "safe and secure" job. The best job security at this point is in a business you create for yourself, if you are willing to do the work necessary to get the results.

Whatever you decide, don't give up!

Wishing you all the best,

Kim Nishida

What's the Big Deal About LinkedIn?

I hope you are already off enjoying the weekend!

I'm working late on a Friday because this week just flew by and I realize I never mentioned to you that the next interview in the "We Learned the Hard Way So You Don't Have To" interview series is coming up on Monday at 2pm Pacific...

==================================
Date: Monday, January 26th, 2009
Time: 2pm Pacific/5pm Eastern

What: Get in the Game with LinkedIn,
An Interview with Roberta Hill of 1-Focus.com

Register:
http://readytoevolve.com/membership/roberta.htm
==================================

Roberta is a LinkedIn veteran who jumped in years ago when it was just another new platform that might either thrive or go bust (does anyone even remember Friendster any more?)

If sites like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter seem a little too unprofessional to you, LinkedIn is the answer. It's mostly populated by small business owners and corporations who want to draw the line between personal and private.
But it can be difficult to break in there and build your network the right way. There are definitely different rules that apply, so join us to learn the "easy" way.

What Can You Change Today?

Being the owner of your own business means you have to be the master of change because business isn't static. The needs of your market change, the economic environment changes, the trends change...and you need to respond.

More than being a master of change, I want to encourage you to be a leader in both business and in life.

To commemorate Martin Luther King day here in the States, I'm sharing this short video that states a beautiful call to action and, I hope, an inspiration to stand up and do something today to effect positive change in your world.

Want to Learn From a New Kid On the Block?

I don't actually. I'd rather learn from someone who's been in the trenches, so to speak...who has experience in what they claim to teach.

Join me tonight at 5pm Pacific time as I interview a veteran of the Web 2.0 scene. She's been involved since before Social Media was a buzzword!

Her name is Biana Babinsky and you can read all about this free event and register at:
http://readytoevolve.com/membership/bianab.htm

I hope to see you there!
